Discussion with Colin Lamprecht about small talk.
Began with "Never needed it to be effective." and ended with "It's important."
Raises questions like:
- In which instances is small talk appropriate, even necessary?
- What comprises "small" talk?
- Is there a proven "need" for small talk, or is this a myth we've been asked to buy into?
- What are the research results regarding small talk?
- I love this one. Those who survive the PhD process really understand that all research is flawed and has gaps.
- An important question is the ramifications of the flaws. Statistical tests and models are based on assumptions about the population. How thoroughly did the researchers test those assumptions?
<Need to work on this. COPE/Climbing season is upon us and I need to respond to program demands.>
